Soot bamboo is a natural, recycled wood that is taken from the attics and ceilings of traditional Japanese thatched-roof houses. Because these houses often contained a large hearth in the center of the room, the smoke and soot rising for tens, or even hundreds of years, dyes the bamboo a natural brown shade, and protects it against mold and bacteria growth.
